What does a time off plan primarily define in Workday Absence?
A time off plan is the central configuration that establishes how one or more related time offs are entered, processed, tracked, and reported. Depending on whether balance tracking is enabled, it can govern the balance period, period schedule, unit of time, worker eligibility, balance visibility, accrual processing, limits, carryover, and the time offs that reduce the balance.
After the plan is configured, workers and managers can submit requests, correct eligible requests, and monitor request status through self-service pages and reports. Administrators can maintain the associated accruals, time off results, adjustments, overrides, and plan balances. A single plan may support multiple related accruals or time offs when they operate against a common balance, provided their units and eligibility design are compatible.
The plan can pass results to Payroll or Payroll Interface, but it does not calculate payroll taxes. Security permissions are controlled through business process and domain security policies, while supervisory organizations and staffing models belong to HCM organization and staffing configuration. Therefore, the defining function of the time off plan is establishing the rules for entering and tracking related time offs.
You are creating an accrual calculation that returns accrual amounts based on employees' years of service.
From the Create Lookup Table task, what type of table should you select?
Years of service resolves as a numeric calculation, so the appropriate table is Advanced Lookup Table -- Numeric Calculation Search Criteria. The lookup table uses the calculated years-of-service value to locate the applicable range and return the corresponding accrual amount. For example, the table might return three hours for one through five years, five hours for six through ten years, and eight hours for service greater than ten years.
Advanced Lookup Table -- Report Field Search Criteria is used when the search value comes directly from a single-instance or multi-instance report field, such as Job Profile. Text Report Field Search Criteria applies when the source is a text field, such as a city name. No Search Criteria provides only a default value and cannot differentiate results according to service bands.
The numeric table should define complete, non-overlapping service ranges and include a suitable response for every expected value. The resulting lookup calculation can then be selected as the accrual amount. Effective dating can be used when service-based accrual rates change over time without requiring the entire accrual configuration to be rebuilt.

Refer to the following scenario to answer the question below.
An absence administrator must create a new time off plan to record when workers fulfill public duties. Because duties vary in duration, they will configure an Accrue-As-You-Go plan to ensure workers always accrue enough time to cover their time off requests.
What accrual frequency method should the administrator use?
The administrator should configure Start of Period as the accrual frequency method on the time off plan. With Start of Period processing, Workday adds the applicable accrual before subtracting time off for the processing period. This sequence ensures the accrued amount is available in the balance when the corresponding public-duty request is evaluated.
That processing order is particularly important for an Accrue-As-You-Go design. The plan is intended to generate accrual in response to the time-off requirement rather than grant workers a conventional fixed entitlement independently of their requests. Processing the accrual first enables the plan balance to fund the qualifying absence before Workday applies the time-off deduction and lower-limit rules.
Under End of Period, Workday subtracts time off before adding the current-period accrual. That order can cause the request to encounter the lower limit or produce unpaid units before the compensating accrual is applied. An accrual-level override is unnecessary when the required processing method applies to the entire plan. Custom Frequency based on hire date defines an anniversary-style recurring accrual and does not correspond to the variable timing and duration of public-duty requests. Start of Period on the plan therefore provides the correct processing sequence.
Refer to the following scenario to answer the question below.
You created a front-loaded, balance tracking time off plan. Workers cannot request unpaid time off, and can carry over balances from one year to the next to be used in 3 months. To account for exceptional circumstances, administrators need to be able to take manual intervention to change time off plan, time off, and accrual values. You need to replace the calculated balance for a group of workers.
What web service do you use?
Put Override Balance is the web service and EIB used to perform mass time off plan balance overrides. It replaces each selected worker's calculated plan balance with the supplied value as of an eligible period start date. This makes it appropriate when an administrator must establish authoritative replacement balances for a group of workers.
Enter Time Off creates mass time off requests through the Request Time Off business process and normally reduces balances. Adjust Time Off loads time off adjustments or corrections but does not replace the overall calculated plan balance. Put Absence Input loads accrual or time off adjustments and overrides; it is used to change component-level accrual or time off values rather than replace the entire time off plan balance.
The time off plan must have Overrides Allowed selected. Administrators must carefully validate the plan, worker, unit, override value, and effective period before loading. After Workday accepts an override, it uses that balance as the starting point for calculations going forward and does not recalculate the balance for the override date or earlier dates based on later retroactive entries.

What report provides managers with a list of leave types available for their team?
View Worker Leave of Absence Eligibility by Organization displays the leave types for which active workers in selected organizations are eligible as of the current day. It enables a manager or other appropriately secured user to review the leave options available to workers across the manager's organization.
Leave Results for Organization reports actual leave results as of a specified date, including leave taken, applicable calendar periods, remaining balances, and individual leave-request details. It is designed to analyze leave activity rather than identify every leave type currently available to the team. Time Off Balances and Liability by Organization reports time off financial liability and employee time off plan balances. All Worker Time Off displays approved, pending, and denied time off for workers and managers in an organization; it does not report leave-of-absence eligibility.
The report evaluates eligibility using the active worker population and the current date. Its results can therefore change when worker attributes or leave configurations change, including worker type, country or region, job data, and additional eligibility criteria. Report visibility remains subject to the manager's organization-based and leave-of-absence security access.
